NLA receives state of the art equipment from JSIF

Created on Friday, 25 Aug 2017 11:29:23

The National Land Agency (NLA) recently received 50 highly specialized ICT resources and equipment from the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) through its Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP).

The donation comprised: total stations; GPS/GNSS rover (VRS compatible); spatial server; uninterruptible power supply; desktop computers (with 32” monitors and 4-8 GB memory); latitude 14 rugged laptops; VRS base stations (satellite tracking); micro-survey CAD; and colour laser printers. These specialized ICT resources and equipment, which include software and hardware, will assist the NLA in boosting its Surveys and Mapping Division in producing survey and cadastral maps in a more efficient manner.

This support was undertaken through a partnership agreement between JSIF and NLA, with JSIF contributing approximately 70 million dollars and the NLA approximately 7 million dollars.  The agreement forms part of the JSIF-ICDP component which focuses on strengthening institutional capacity for improved urban management.

Manager for Cadastral Surveys at the NLA, Major Patrick Aiken, expressed appreciation noting that “the equipment donated will certainly be of tremendous benefit as it relates to our field surveys, cadastral mapping, plan examination and control surveys operations as the equipment will enable the National Land Agency to fill the void by equipping all field surveyors with a total station for greater efficiency and productivity.”

Meanwhile, General Manager for Technical Services at JSIF, Loy Malcolm, noted that the Jamaica Social Investment Fund is committed to fostering economic growth and community development, and that the donation to the NLA was timely and aimed at strengthening capacity building, urban management and public safety within Jamaica.
